Dexter Beef
We purchased some Dexter cattle in September 2009, we bought six cows and one bull, Zak has named him Billy the Bull. In the spring of 2010 we had six lovely calves, which we will rear on our farm to give us beautiful tasting dexter beef in the future.
All of our dexters are short legged and black, they are lovely animals.
This spring we had five more calves to help to keep the herd going.
The Dexter originated from southern Ireland and they descended from the black cattle of the early Celts. They are the smallest British breed of cattle and come in three colours, predominately black, but also red and dun. Dexters are extremely maternal and because they are a dual purpose breed, they milk well. The calves are up onto their feet very quickly and problems in calving are rare.
Dexter beef is of excellent quality and flavour with good marbling.
Dexter Beef will be available soon.
